“The Dark Tower” - Calf pieces for Daniel

It’s been such an amazing feeling coming back to tattooing this past week! And I couldn’t have picked a better project to come back to: two calf pieces based on The Dark Tower book series by Stephen King.

Daniel wanted The Dark Tower itself on one calf, and after discussing it, we decided to have the Gunslinger’s guns & gunbelt on the other, and to use the rose motif to tie the two designs together (they have a lot of significance in the story.)

Lines down on the Gunslinger tattoo; this was my first tattoo post-lockdown that I could really sink my teeth into some substantial linework, and I was so happy!

Just two days later and Daniel was back in for his second leg!

I loved getting to play around with the design on this one - the Dark Tower is never really specifically described, other than a very tall tower made of black stone…. so I had a lot of fun with abstract shapes and spires!

Since this was Daniel’s second, very long session within three days and he was already going through the healing process with his other leg, his skin was much quicker to get angry with me this time! The tattoo will settle just the same as the other in time… but it does mean that a bit of a raw, angry photo is unavoidable.

I loved working on this project - I’m so happy any time I get to make book-related tattoos, or vibrant colourful tattoos, or if I get trusted completely with a concept, or if I can get lost in detail… And I got to do all of that with these! So grateful to Daniel for asking for these, and sitting through some grueling sessions without a single word of complaint. A very belated start to making tattoos in 2021 - but an excellent one nonetheless!
